The National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering (CFDA 47.041) program awarded a $147,212 Project Grant to The Washington University in St. Louis to develop a framework for ensuring safety in autonomous systems under sensor faults and cyber attacks. The research aims to combine techniques from control theory, machine learning, and system security to enable provable safety guarantees for autonomous systems like driverless cars, drones, and robotic systems. The project will validate the developed techniques through simulation and hardware evaluation on the PI's F1TENTH racing testbed. Beyond technical advancements, the project includes educational activities like course modules on fault tolerant control and data-driven methods, as well as undergraduate capstone and research experiences targeting underrepresented groups. The award period is from September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2027.
