The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $294,957 Project Grant under the STEM Education (CFDA 47.076) program to the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). The grant aims to develop tools for collecting data from university instructors and students on the use of evidence-based teaching practices, as well as identify perceived obstacles to their adoption. Specifically, the project will create and validate the Student-Inventory of Methods and Practices Associated with Competent Teaching (S-IMPACT) survey and the Observed Barriers to Successful Teaching Questionnaire for Lecturers (OBSTQL). These new instruments will complement the previously developed Faculty-Inventory of Methods and Practices Associated with Competent Teaching (F-IMPACT) tool. The project also plans to conduct interviews with up to 240 teachers at two collaborating universities to understand the most common barriers to implementing evidence-based teaching practices. The goal is to provide actionable feedback to instructors to improve their teaching methods and ultimately enhance student performance and retention in STEM disciplines.
