The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $184,224 Project Grant under the STEM Education (CFDA 47.076) program to the University of South Alabama (USA) to transform STEM faculty understanding of effective instructional practices and improve undergraduate STEM education. The 2-year project aims to engage up to 30 STEM faculty participants from USA and three local community colleges in faculty learning communities and a summer institute focused on STEM education research and evidence-based teaching methods. The project objectives are to build a searchable database of instructional resources, increase faculty knowledge and comfort with STEM education literature, and develop capacity for future undergraduate STEM education reform efforts and grant proposals across the Gulf Coast region. This project has the potential to have a lasting impact on STEM teaching and learning by improving faculty engagement with evidence-based practices.
