The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $177,281 Project Grant under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) to Florida State University (FSU) to design, construct, and deploy a cryogenic, undoped cesium iodide (CsI) scintillation detector at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The detector, weighing 10 kg, will be used to measure coherent, elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering, which could provide insights into the properties of neutrinos, dark matter, and undiscovered forces of nature.
