This $279,674 Project Grant awarded by the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) program (CFDA 47.070) supports the development of MELIOREM, an automated tool to enhance the safety of autonomous vehicles. MELIOREM will leverage high-performance computing infrastructure to simulate various driving scenarios and rigorously test autonomous vehicles to identify and address potential safety issues before they impact public roads. This initiative aims to ensure the dependability and safety of autonomous vehicles for all road users by applying advanced search techniques to generate safety cases and assess vehicle performance under different conditions. The project, conducted by George Mason University, will also create educational opportunities by training diverse students in higher education. By bolstering the safety of self-driving technology, this effort contributes to the broader professional community and advances transportation safety.
