The University of Alabama, through the Office for Sponsored Programs Division, has been awarded a $373,894 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) program. The grant supports the research group of Professor Pan in developing technology for rapid analysis and imaging of microscopic interactions of nanomaterials in electrochemical systems. The project fully integrates light-scattering imaging with microelectrodes to quantify the local electro(photo)catalytic activities of plasmonic nanorods, while also resolving their translational/rotational motions and chemical transformations. Key objectives include advancing the understanding of structure-dependent catalytic reactivity of nanoparticles and providing insights into single nanorod-mediated (photo)electrochemical activities. The 3-year project also features educational and community outreach activities targeting STEM recruitment and training of Alabama students underrepresented in these fields.
