The National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) program awarded a 3-year, $545,912 project grant to Professor Zachariah A. Page of the University of Texas at Austin. The grant supports the development of innovative, light-driven polymer chemistry approaches using boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) dye photoinitiators. The research aims to establish structure-reactivity relationships for BODIPY dyes to enable selective activation of polymerization reactions through exposure to different light conditions, allowing the production of plastics with tailored properties. This project will provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate student training in polymer chemistry and integrate the developed dyes into a first-year undergraduate research course. No subawards are planned under this grant.
