The Salish Kootenai College, Inc. received a $875,000 Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service on May 8, 2023 through the State & Private Forestry Cooperative Fire Assistance program. The grant will support the development of a Tribal Natural Resource Workforce through 2028. As a 1994 Land Grant College and Tribal College located in Montana, Salish Kootenai College is well-positioned to provide training in forest and land management to Native American students and communities. Through this award, the College will leverage its expertise to deliver programming aligned with the State & Private Forestry Cooperative Fire Assistance program's goals of wildfire prevention, control, and prescribed burning on non-federal lands. The $875K in funding will allow Salish Kootenai College to establish new educational opportunities during the five-year period of performance ending April 2028.
