This National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site award provides $300,000 over three years to Northern Arizona University (NAU), Lowell Observatory, and the USGS Astrogeology Science Center to host an astronomy and planetary science research program. The project will pair 10 undergraduate students per year with scientists from these organizations to conduct astrophysics research across a range of topics, including planetary, solar, stellar, and galactic astrophysics. In addition to the research experiences, the students will attend seminars on professional astrophysics, responsible research conduct, and graduate school applications. The program aims to increase the nationwide pool of scientists and engineers by offering high-quality research opportunities to students at a critical stage of their undergraduate education. The award is funded through the NSF's STEM Education (CFDA 47.076) program, which supports initiatives to enhance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.
