This National Science Foundation REU Site grant awarded to Northern Arizona University will provide high-quality summer research experiences for a total of 27 students, primarily from tribal and community colleges, over the summers of 2024-2026. The $250,000 award will support 9 students per summer to conduct research on ecology, biodiversity, and the environment of the Colorado Plateau. Students will learn research methods and many will present their findings at scientific conferences. The program aims to advance understanding in these environmental science focus areas while also providing life-changing academic and research opportunities for underrepresented students to explore pathways to STEM careers. This award is funded through the NSF's STEM Education (CFDA 47.076) program, which supports initiatives to enhance STEM education and broaden participation across the United States.
