This $374,493 National Science Foundation (NSF) Project Grant award, funded under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CFDA 47.070) program, will support a three-year Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York. The REU site will recruit 9 undergraduate students each summer for a 10-week research experience focused on computational methods in high performance computing and their applications to computational sciences. Students will work with mentors in computer science and related fields such as computational vision, biology, chemistry, cybersecurity, and machine learning. The program aims to provide students, particularly from minority serving institutions, with hands-on research opportunities to develop technical skills in parallel processing and computational problem-solving. Through the program, students will gain experience in scientific research, communication, and collaboration to prepare them for graduate studies and research careers in computer science and allied disciplines. The Research Foundation of the City University of New York (RFCUNY) will serve as the awardee for this program, leveraging the resources and expertise of CUNY's High Performance Computing Center to support the REU activities.
