The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) has been awarded a $1,002,436 federal project grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the STEM Education (CFDA 47.076) program. The grant supports a national consensus study examining workplace barriers, solutions, and policies for STEM and STEM education professionals and postsecondary students with disabilities. The goal of the project is to publish and disseminate a study report with evidence-based recommendations for improving the engagement, retention, and career advancement of people with disabilities in STEM and STEM education fields. The award reflects NSF's mission to support research and initiatives that broaden the participation and success of underrepresented groups in STEM. This project will be conducted by an expert committee convened by NAS and is expected to be completed by August 31, 2026.
