- This $599,998 National Science Foundation award under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) will fund research to estimate the emergence of anthropogenic climate change signals in snow water resource metrics in mountainous regions. Led by researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder, the project will use an innovative modeling framework including a large ensemble climate model and process-based hydrological modeling. It aims to strengthen understanding of when and how much climate change...
- The National Science Foundation Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences awarded a $666,969 Project Grant to the University of Utah Office of Sponsored Projects under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050). The grant will fund research from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2025 to advance understanding of orographic precipitation processes in continental multi-ridge mountain environments like Utah's Wasatch Range. Specifically, the project aims to investigate snowfall enhancement over...
- This $256,252 National Science Foundation award under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) will fund research by the Aspen Global Change Institute to estimate the emergence of anthropogenic warming signals in snow water resource metrics in mountainous regions. The three-year project grant will use an innovative modeling framework including a large ensemble climate model, statistical learning techniques, and process-based hydrological modeling to analyze uncertainty and attribute changes in...
- This Cooperative Agreement award from the Bureau of Reclamation under the Snow Water Supply Forecasting Program (CFDA 15.078) will address key knowledge gaps in understanding the impacts of wildfire on snow accumulation, ablation, and runoff generation. The $876,296.41 project, with a period of performance from January 4, 2024 to September 30, 2026, will leverage a network of automated stations and field studies initiated following the 2020 Cameron Peak and East Troublesome Fires in Colorado....
- This Cooperative Agreement award from the Bureau of Reclamation under the Snow Water Supply Forecasting Program (CFDA 15.078) provides $1,224,810.85 to Montana State University to address deficiencies in current snow monitoring through the deployment of emerging snow observation technologies. The project aims to enhance spatial characterization of snow cover using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) gamma-ray and LiDAR measurements, coupled with ground-based cosmic ray and gamma-ray snow water...
- This $250,771 Project Grant was awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Polar Programs to Colorado State University to conduct collaborative research on the interaction between Antarctic low clouds and natural aerosols. The research aims to improve global climate model simulations over Antarctica and the Southern Ocean by better representing low-level cloud physics, which have significant impacts on ice surface melt and solar energy transmission. The 4-year project will...
- This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Polar Programs will support research to enhance understanding of cloud impacts on the surface energy budget of the Antarctic Peninsula. With total funding of $248,364, the award period is from February 1, 2022 through July 31, 2024. The University of California San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography, as awardee, will use surface-based and satellite measurements to characterize clouds and humidity in the region. Researchers will...
- The Bureau of Reclamation awarded a $1,060,448 Cooperative Agreement on December 20, 2023, under the Snow Water Supply Forecasting Program (CFDA 15.078) to The Regents of the University of Colorado. This grant aims to improve water supply forecasts by enhancing snow monitoring through the deployment of emerging technologies, such as airborne LiDAR, and better integration of snow data into forecasting models. The project has two sub-awards - one to Oregon State University to assist in...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences Project Grant award to Colorado State University (CSU) is for $254,826 over 3 years, starting on July 1, 2023.
