This $1,103,549 federal Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) program will extend high-speed, reliable networking infrastructure to connect Colorado's Western Slope small institutions of higher education to the Front Range gigabit regional research and education (R&E) network. The project partners with a regional nonprofit middle-mile network provider to create a virtual routing and forwarding network overlay that will enable these institutions to fully participate in the Front Range gigabit network. This will provide the necessary R&E network connectivity for the awardee, the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), which manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), to deliver specialized atmospheric R&D services supporting research and operational needs across the weather, climate, and Earth system sciences. The award period is from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2026.
