This National Science Foundation (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CFDA 47.070) Project Grant award in the amount of $138,101 to the University of Wisconsin System will support research to enable scalable and resilient quantum computer architectures through an integrated hardware-software co-design approach.
The key objectives of this 5-year project are to: 1) Co-design the instruction set architecture and runtime system to enhance the efficiency and resilience of quantum computing systems, including developing new hardware-software primitives for distributed qubit control; and 2) Create software tools to facilitate the design, tuning, and debugging of hybrid classical-quantum workflows. Additionally, the project aims to explore the potential of partially fault-tolerant quantum computer architectures and investigate co-design strategies to improve their practical utility. The award will also support the development of a broadly accessible quantum computing curriculum and outreach activities to engage undergraduate students.
