This National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I award of $275,000 to Platform Technology Ventures LLC aims to advance the development of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) as a novel form of digital collaboration and governance systems. The project will investigate the innovative integration of off-chain data consensus protocols within DAOs, which can potentially enhance various sectors such as finance, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. Specifically, the research will focus on enabling trustless verification of off-chain data via on-chain incentives for carbon credit marketplaces, a high-value field expected to reach $40B by 2030. This work represents an innovative stride toward understanding the future potential of DAO technology across diverse industries, while also identifying key risks and failure modes to inform improved DAO designs. The award is funded under the NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (TIP) program (CFDA 47.084), which supports the development of innovative technologies with potential for societal and economic impact.
