The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $340,000 Project Grant under its Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) program to The Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund, doing business as Tulane University. Researchers at Tulane University and Tufts University will perform computational and experimental investigations using quantum chemistry, machine learning, and atomic-scale characterization to identify and develop a novel class of "dual-atom alloy" catalysts. These catalysts are anticipated to enable more challenging chemical reactions compared to traditional single-atom alloy catalysts. The project aims to establish structure-function relationships for these dual-atom alloy active sites, which could lead to the discovery of new high-performance catalysts for applications where traditional heterogeneous catalysts fall short. In addition to the scientific research, the project includes STEM education and outreach activities. The 3-year project period runs from March 1, 2024 to February 28, 2027.
