The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $358,944 Project Grant to Guilford College under the STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076). This 5-year grant will support the "Developing STEM Identity through Holistic Student Support and Engagement" project, which aims to increase STEM degree completion among low-income, high-achieving undergraduate students at Guilford College. The project will provide scholarships, mentoring, undergraduate research experiences, and other engagement opportunities to two cohorts of 10 students pursuing bachelor's degrees in biology, chemistry, and computing technology and information systems. The goal is to retain at least 80% of scholars into their second year, graduate at least 75% within five years, and ensure 100% of graduates secure STEM employment or graduate school placement within six months. The project will contribute to national efforts to increase the number of low-income students earning STEM degrees and generate knowledge about effective approaches for supporting their academic success and career pathways.
