The Research Foundation For The State University Of New York (RF-SUNY) has been awarded a $407,090 project grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Ocean Sciences under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050). The goal of this 4-year project is to 1) design, build, and field-demonstrate a next-generation infrared gas analyzer engineered to effectively remove motion interference for air-sea CO2 flux measurements, and 2) develop a compact, robust, and low-power eddy covariance CO2 flux system suitable for autonomous ocean observing platforms. This work will involve collaboration with industry and ocean observing system engineers to integrate the final flux measurement system onto existing and future ocean monitoring platforms, enabling expanded at-sea direct CO2 flux data collection to support carbon cycle and air-sea interaction studies.
