The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a $285,000 Project Grant to the University of Southern California (USC) under the NSF Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) to develop the QUAKEWORX software framework. This 5-year collaborative research project aims to enable a broad community of researchers and students to access and further improve state-of-the-art physics-based models for forecasting earthquake ruptures and seismic hazards. The QUAKEWORX framework will provide standardized pipelines for earthquake simulations, data assimilation, and machine learning analysis, curating and integrating leading tools and data products. This will eliminate barriers to expertise and computing resources, delivering an innovative and easy-to-use cyberinfrastructure to the earthquake research and education community. The project supports the national interest by advancing science on earthquake physics, improving seismic hazard estimates, and facilitating STEM workforce development and translation of results to society.
