The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) received a three-year $190,000 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) to develop a new computational framework for superior image reconstruction in limited data quantitative photoacoustic tomography. UTA will build novel reconstruction schemes using game theory and statistical sensitivity analysis to tackle challenges in quantitative photoacoustic tomography, such as limited data availability and tissue sound speed uncertainty. The new framework aims to provide high-quality reconstructions of optical properties in cancerous tissues to improve diagnosis and treatment planning. UTA expects the computationally inexpensive and robust methods to establish a new paradigm for limited data inverse problems. The award supports UTA's scientific goal of facilitating accurate cancer imaging and clinical outcomes in alignment with the NSF's mission to advance scientific knowledge and understanding.
