The National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Astronomical Sciences awarded a $100,000 Project Grant to the University of Pittsburgh to support "COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH: WHITE DWARFS IN BINARIES ACROSS THE H-R DIAGRAM WITH THE APOGEE-GALEX-GAIA CATALOG", under the NSF's Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) program. The goal of this 3-year project is to assemble an observational sample of thousands of post mass-transfer binary systems containing white dwarfs, by leveraging data from the GALEX, GAIA, and APOGEE surveys. This research will further the understanding of mass transfer processes in interacting stellar systems, and provide opportunities for STEM student projects, as well as programs to teach astronomy to the blind and visually impaired. No sub-awards are planned under this grant.
