- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Integrative Activities project grant award of $165,750 to the University of New Mexico (UNM) will fund a 10-week Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program in physics and astronomy. The program will provide authentic summer research experiences for 8 undergraduate students each year, helping them decide if a career in physics or astronomy research is suitable. The REU program will feature new approaches to student recruitment, mentoring, and...
- This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) provides $401,386 to Texas A&M University to continue supporting a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site in nuclear science. The goal is to inspire the next generation of students to pursue STEM education and careers. The 10-week summer program will support 10 undergraduates per year in conducting research at the leading edge of nuclear...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Project Grant award for $464,339 supports the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site in Physics at Lehigh University. The REU program will provide 10 undergraduate students each summer the opportunity to participate in 10 weeks of research across diverse physics fields, from fundamental areas like string theory to applied domains like condensed matter physics and biophysics. The program involves hands-on research, faculty seminars, a student...
- This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) supports the renewal of a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site in Physics at Oklahoma State University. The $372,192 award will allow 8-10 undergraduate students to conduct 10 weeks of summer research at the university, immersing them in a multidisciplinary research environment covering topics such as atomic physics, computational physics,...
- This $398,029 National Science Foundation project grant will fund the establishment of a new Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site at the University of Kansas from March 2022 through February 2025. The REU site will expose ten undergraduate participants each summer to research in astronomy, astroparticle physics, high energy theory, and condensed matter theory and experiment. Participants will gain hands-on research experience through short-term mentored projects and have the...
- The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley received a three-year, $414,434 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049). The grant will support the development of the TOROS Project software pipeline to enable optical follow-up observations of gravitational-wave events in the southern hemisphere through June 2024. The TOROS Project aims to coordinate electromagnetic observations of astrophysical events detected by...
- This federal Project Grant award, funded by the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049), provides $460,000 to the University of Kansas Center for Research Inc. to support a 10-week Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site focused on astronomy, astroparticle physics, high energy theory, and condensed matter theory and experiment. The goal is to expose 10 undergraduate participants per summer to research in these areas, while also...
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was awarded $499,191 under a Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences program to support the renewal of its Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) and Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) site in physics. Over the three-year period from May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2026, the site will provide research experiences for twelve undergraduates and one teacher annually in areas such as gravitational wave detection, lasers and optics, radio and optical astronomy, sustainable energy, and materials science. Students will engage in theoretical, computational, experimental, observational, and applied physics projects to advance their skills toward independent scientific work. The teacher will develop smaller subprojects to conduct with their students. The funding furthers the NSF's goal of strengthening the nation's scientific enterprise through increasing scientific knowledge and understanding major issues.
