Wichita State University received a $606,305 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) to acquire a 500 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer. The spectrometer will be used by Professor James Bann and colleagues to support research in drug design, cancer therapeutics, nanomaterials, and polymer chemistry. It will also enhance education and research efforts for students and faculty across multiple departments at Wichita State University and 29 surrounding rural colleges and universities. The spectrometer's liquid nitrogen-cooled probe provides increased sensitivity for elucidating molecular structures and studying protein, peptide, and macromolecular interactions. This award will advance frontier research areas like structure-guided drug design, viral protease inhibition, and advanced polymer synthesis through September 2025.
