This $589,100 National Science Foundation Engineering Directorate Project Grant will fund the acquisition of a Nanoscribe Photonics Professional GT2 3D printer for precision medical device manufacturing at Michigan State University from September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2025. The printer will be housed in the university's Electrical and Computer Engineering Research Cleanroom, a shared research facility available to MSU researchers and external users. It will immediately benefit investigators from four MSU departments and three colleges, as well as researchers from organizations including Fraunhofer USA Center Midwest, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis, and Oakland University. The printer's nanoscale resolution and large print volume will enable new research avenues in areas such as neural interfaces, wearable sensors, microfluidics, biomedical robotics, and biophotonics for medical imaging and biosensing. In addition to expediting current and future biomedical device research, the printer is expected to promote multidisciplinary collaboration and serve educational needs in fields such as additive manufacturing, micro/nanoengineering, and biotechnologies.
