Dr. Angel Roman was awarded a $300,000 National Science Foundation Mathematical and Physical Sciences Ascending Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (NSF MPS-ASCEND) from September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2025. The award supports Dr. Roman's research project entitled "The C*-Algebraic Mackey Bijection for Real Reductive Groups" under the mentorship of Dr. Xiang Tang at Washington University in St. Louis.
The project seeks to examine the Mackey bijection between tempered, irreducible unitary representations of a real reductive group and the unitary irreducible representations of its Cartan motion groups using C*-algebra theory and continuous fields of C*-algebras. In addition, Dr. Roman will collaborate with researchers in Puerto Rico to organize student-focused conferences and mentor Latin American students, engage in professional development seminars for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, and work with Gallaudet University to develop mathematics transcription resources for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. The award is funded by the National Science Foundation under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049).
