This four-year, $921,514 National Science Foundation project grant supports the development of a comprehensive modeling framework for evaluating in-memory computing fabrics at the University of Notre Dame. The framework will enable rapid design-space exploration of application-level workloads assuming emerging in-memory computing technologies for artificial intelligence, machine learning, bioinformatics, and graph processing. Investigators will develop device, circuit, and architectural models as well as methods for integrating heterogeneous solutions tailored to specific applications. They will also model ferroelectric devices and evaluate computing-at-the-periphery and content-addressable memory array designs. Applications from the MLPerf consortium will be mapped to in-memory computing fabrics. This award is aligned with the goals of the NSF's Computer and Information Science and Engineering program to advance computing and accelerate discovery through cyberinfrastructure and investigator-initiated research.
