This $750,000 project grant from the National Science Foundation's Computer and Information Science and Engineering program (CFDA 47.070) will support the development of the CyberShuttle framework. CyberShuttle aims to create a seamless, secure, and highly usable scientific research environment that integrates computational science and engineering resources across local systems, university computing centers, cloud infrastructures, and national supercomputing facilities.
Led by the University of California San Diego with partners at Indiana University, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and the San Diego Supercomputer Center, the project will build upon the open-source Apache Airavata software to develop a hybrid distributed system enabling end-to-end integration of research workflows, tools, and data. Scientists and engineers will access this system through user interfaces designed using user-centered principles. The CyberShuttle framework seeks to increase researcher productivity by providing seamless access to cyberinfrastructure resources and will be tested and expanded with scientific communities over the four-year period from September 2022 through August 2027.
