This $393,616 National Science Foundation project grant supports the development of the Experiments as a Service Infrastructure (EASI) by Carnegie Learning Inc. The EASI enables randomized experiments comparing alternative digital learning experiences and analyzing resulting data to improve future student experiences. Funded under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering program, the five-year award beginning August 1, 2022 will support three complementary research areas. First, the EASI helps design field experiments investigating learning theories and instructional improvements. Second, it facilitates sophisticated analysis of experiment results in the context of large-scale student data to determine effective interventions for different subgroups. Third, the EASI provides a testbed for algorithms dynamically analyzing experiment data to enhance learning for future students based on effectiveness. The integrated infrastructure aims to lower barriers to high-quality, innovative experiments advancing the science of learning and tailoring digital education through collaboration.
