The goal is to advance neuromorphic computing architectures that can achieve brain-scale efficiency for complex machine learning through a multi-disciplinary approach spanning device physics,...
- This $500,000 Project Grant awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) program supports a collaborative research effort between Yale University and its partners to develop energy-efficient algorithms and hardware for spike-based edge computing. The project aims to integrate spiking neural networks (SNNs), a brain-inspired computing paradigm, with modern integrated circuits to enable practical deployment of neuromorphic...
- The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $174,229 Project Grant under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) program to Michigan Technological University. The grant, awarded on October 1, 2023, with a completion date of September 30, 2025, is focused on developing a self-learning neuromorphic robot system that can operate efficiently in resource-constrained environments. The key objectives of this research project are to: 1) create a neuromorphic robot that utilizes...
- This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Division of Computing and Communication Foundations, under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering program (CFDA 47.070), provides $173,894 to Kennesaw State University Research And Service Foundation, Inc. to develop a neuromorphic processing framework for spatiotemporal fusion of visual sensors. The awardee will design a hybrid neuromorphic framework composed of spiking neural networks and conventional artificial neural...
- The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a Project Grant of $599,980 to the University of Arizona, through the NSF Engineering program (CFDA 47.041), for the period of July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2030. The project seeks to develop a new type of neuromorphic device called "Moiré Synaptic Transistors" using two-dimensional materials. These devices aim to achieve lower power consumption, higher memory state density, more tunability, and more biomimicking functionalities compared to...
Drexel University was awarded a $571,654 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering program (CFDA 47.070) to develop a software infrastructure called NeuroXplorer. NeuroXplorer aims to help both end-users and developers of neuromorphic computing systems. For end-users, it allows for machine learning tasks to be efficiently mapped onto neuromorphic chips. For developers, it provides analysis, simulation and synthesis tools to explore new chip designs to meet emerging machine learning workloads. Specifically, the grant will support developing compiler backends to generate executable code for neuromorphic chips from high-level machine learning task specifications, as well as mapping and synthesis tools to execute tasks on novel neuromorphic architectures built using FPGAs. Design-space exploration tools within NeuroXplorer will also help tackle the growing complexity of neuromorphic systems and challenges integrating emerging technologies. NeuroXplorer will be made openly available to promote neuromorphic computing adoption and commercialization in the United States.
