This $742,507 National Science Foundation project grant supports Michigan State University researchers to conduct multi-messenger astrophysics research using the High-Altitude Water Cherenkov Observatory. HAWC is located in Mexico and continuously monitors the full sky above 10 TeV gamma rays to study extreme astrophysical environments and test questions around dark matter. The MSU group will search for gamma-ray counterparts to high-energy neutrinos detected by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory to perform multi-messenger analyses of time-varying sources. Researchers will also capitalize on positions within both HAWC and IceCube to conduct combined dark matter searches. Outreach activities include developing a new gamma ray workshop for high school students. This work addresses goals under the NSF's Windows on the Universe program to advance multi-messenger astrophysics. The period of performance is September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2025.
