The National Science Foundation awarded a $1.2 million Project Grant to Indiana University under the Engineering federal grant program (CFDA 47.041) to support the Research Experiences for Teachers Advancement in Nanotechnology (RETAIN) program from June 2022 through May 2025. RETAIN provides 30 K-14 educators from surrounding metropolitan school districts with immersive research experiences and workshops in nanotechnology to increase their understanding of challenges in the field and associated career opportunities. Educators are guided to create new classroom learning modules that integrate STEM disciplines, convey scientific process skills, and align with state standards. The modules are designed to boost student excitement and interest in STEM fields, particularly among underserved urban populations. RETAIN aims to support STEM education through disseminating the teacher-developed modules and sharing program best practices on a national level.
