The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources received a $500,000 Formula Grant award from the Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Personal Responsibility Education Program (CFDA 93.092) to provide pregnancy prevention education services from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2024. The purpose of the ACA PREP program is to educate youth and young parents on abstinence and contraception to prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Through three sub-awards of $167,000 each, the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health will support Kanawha Institute for Social Research and Action, Inc., Mission West Virginia, Inc., and Mountainheart Community Services, Inc. to deliver pregnancy prevention education using evidence-based curricula targeting at-risk populations in select areas of the state.
