The South Carolina Forestry Commission received a $489,064 project grant award from the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service to implement the Volunteer Fire Assistance Program in South Carolina from August 2021 through June 2024.
The grant funding will support the State & Private Forestry Cooperative Fire Assistance program's goals of assisting with control of rural fires as well as fire prevention, control, suppression and prescribed use of fires on non-federal forest and other rural lands in South Carolina. Specifically, the South Carolina Forestry Commission will work to develop and transfer new approaches and technology regarding rural fire management on non-federal lands in the state through the project period.
