Professor Qiang Cui of Boston University will use a $500,000 National Science Foundation Project Grant in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) to develop hybrid computational models for membrane-protein interfaces. The models will integrate machine learning techniques with molecular mechanics and coarse-grained simulations to enable mechanistic analysis of protein phase separation at cell membranes and protein-mediated membrane porations. This will provide insights into important biological processes such as cell signaling, viral infection, and synaptic transmission. Professor Cui and the Trustees of Boston University will perform this work over a three-year period ending June 2025.
