The National Science Foundation Office of International Science and Engineering awarded Trustees of Boston University $399,636 under the Office of International Science and Engineering federal grant program (CFDA 47.079) to support the IRES TRACK II: Multidisciplinary Coastal Zone Hazards Institutes project from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2025.

Over the three-year period, the project will provide multidisciplinary training and hands-on laboratory and field experience in coastal zone hazards research to 42 U.S. graduate students through participation in Advanced Studies Institutes (ASIs) hosted by partner institutions in France, Japan, and Indonesia. The U.S. team, consisting of faculty and lecturers from Boston University, Northern Arizona University, and University of Alaska Fairbanks, will lead the ASI activities in partnership with foreign universities. The ASI experiences aim to equip students with skills from multiple disciplines to assess and predict risk exposure in densely populated coastal regions facing compounded climate change and natural hazards exacerbated by human activity.
