This $299,988 National Science Foundation Office of International Science and Engineering project grant will support an undergraduate interdisciplinary research collaboration in smart connected systems between institutions in the United States and Spain. Over three years, 18 undergraduate students from Manhattan College and the City University of New York's College of Staten Island will conduct mentored research at the University of Zaragosa in Spain.

Students will participate in pre-travel training workshops, spend eight weeks each summer working on projects with University of Zaragosa professors in areas like sensors, optical networks, machine learning and cybersecurity. They will also engage in follow-up collaborative projects upon returning to their home institutions. This international collaboration aims to provide American STEM students with global research experiences, advancing science while increasing participation from underrepresented groups. As the sub-awardee, the Research Foundation of the City University of New York will help administer the project and support for the City University of New York students.
