This National Science Foundation Project Grant of $402,511 will fund the University of Houston System to operate a Research Experiences for Undergraduates Site focused on neurotechnologies from September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2025. The site will support 10 undergraduate students per summer in innovative interdisciplinary research projects across multiple dimensions of brain function and behavior with the goal of improving national health. Students will gain hands-on training in areas like device development, neural activity measurement, neuromodulation, and neurorehabilitation to develop early-stage medical technologies that can help diagnose, restore, enhance and rehabilitate sensory, motor, affective and cognitive functions. In keeping with the NSF Engineering Directorate's mission to advance innovation and excellence in engineering research and education, the program aims to excite and inspire underrepresented students about careers in neural, cognitive and rehabilitation engineering fields that can help address critical needs for aging and disabled populations.
