This $165,488 National Science Foundation project grant supports the 28th and 29th Dissertations Symposium in Chemical Oceanography (DISCO XXVIII and DISCO XXIX). The University of Hawaii at Manoa will organize DISCO XXVIII in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii in October 2022. The biennial conference provides recent and soon-to-be Ph.D. graduates in chemical oceanography an opportunity to present dissertation research results and participate in professional development activities. Symposium attendees will be selected from early career scientists who earned a doctoral degree in ocean chemistry within the year preceding or the year after the meeting. Participation fosters collaboration and networking to build a cohort able to provide future research capacity and leadership in ocean sciences, advancing NSF's Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) goal of increased understanding of the integrated Earth system through basic research support.
