This $292,994 National Science Foundation project grant supports the University of Connecticut in delivering the Bias Reduction in Medical Information (BRIMI) program. BRIMI aims to use artificial intelligence to detect and mitigate biased, harmful, or false health information that disproportionately impacts minority groups. It will develop novel AI approaches to empirically establish and reduce health information inequities. Key deliverables include new metrics to define and characterize biased health information dissemination online and across populations. The program will also analyze disagreement within and across populations on health issues to identify areas for improvement. Outcomes will advance the understanding of how misinformation spreads and help prioritize mitigation efforts. This award furthers the goals of the Computer and Information Science and Engineering federal grant program (CFDA 47.070) by supporting investigator-initiated research and education in computing and information science fields.
