The Public Policy Institute of California was awarded a $173,584 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings under the federal STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076).
The grant will fund the RAPID: A Researcher-Practitioner-Partnership to Assess the Impact of COVID-19 Recession on NGSS Implementation project from June 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022. The project aims to assess how the economic downturn resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards in California K-12 schools. PPIC will work with education researchers and practitioners to understand challenges to NGSS implementation during the recession and identify policy strategies to support continued standards adoption. Findings will help inform state and local education leaders seeking to sustain science education reforms during an economic crisis.
