This two-year Project Grant award of $401,300 from the National Science Foundation Division of Ocean Sciences supports collaborative research on constraints of interseismic locking near the trench on the Oregon segment of the Cascadia Subduction Zone using seafloor geodesy. The research will be conducted through the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego under the NSF's Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050). This program supports basic research in the atmospheric, earth, and ocean sciences to expand fundamental knowledge and understanding of the integrated Earth system. Specifically, the award will fund the deployment and operation of seafloor Global Navigation Satellite Systems receivers to measure interseismic strain accumulation and assess seismic hazard in this region capable of generating great megathrust earthquakes. The research outputs will provide insight into earthquake processes along this subduction zone.
