The University of Washington was awarded a $506,570 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Chemistry under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049). The grant will fund research from August 2021 through July 2025 to design plasmonic nanoparticle assemblies for active nanoscale temperature control through exploiting near- and far-field coupling effects. As part of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program's goals to strengthen the nation's scientific enterprise and increase scientific knowledge of major national problems, this research aims to develop new nanotechnology for precise temperature manipulation at the molecular scale through innovative plasmonic techniques. The University of Washington will perform the research through its Office of Sponsored Programs/Grant & Contracts Division in Seattle, Washington.
