The New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology received a $396,934 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation on September 15, 2021 to acquire a high-resolution confocal Raman microscope. The microscope will enable liquid and solid experiments under the Geosciences program (CFDA #47.050).

The Geosciences program supports basic research in the atmospheric, earth, and ocean sciences to strengthen understanding of the integrated Earth system. Acquisition of the confocal Raman microscope will allow New Mexico Tech researchers to conduct experiments that provide new insights into Earth processes through advanced analysis of materials at the molecular level in both solid and liquid states. The microscope's capabilities directly support the program's goals and will benefit research in geoscience fields through August 31, 2024.
