The University of New Hampshire will receive $194,683 under a three-year Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) to conduct research titled "COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH: MULTI-PHASE SULFUR AND NITROGEN CHEMISTRY IN AIR AND SNOW DURING ALASKAN LAYERED POLLUTION AND CHEMICAL ANALYSIS (ALPACA)." Through this funding, researchers at the University of New Hampshire will analyze air and snow samples collected in Alaska to better understand the chemical processes involving sulfur and nitrogen species during pollution events. Specifically, the grantee will examine multi-phase chemistry of these elements under varying conditions. Insights from this research could expand fundamental knowledge of integrated earth system processes and air quality issues, in line with the goals of the NSF Geosciences program. The period of performance is from June 2021 to May 2024.
