The University of Alabama was awarded a $381,331 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Chemistry under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences federal grant program (CFDA 47.049) to support collaborative research on macrocyclic and supramolecular pincer catalysts using ruthenium and first row metals for carbon dioxide reduction. The three-year award, effective August 1, 2021 through July 31, 2024, will fund the development of new catalyst systems to promote the conversion of carbon dioxide into value-added chemicals and fuels through reduction reactions. As part of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program's goals to strengthen the Nation's scientific enterprise through increased understanding of major problems, this research aims to advance carbon dioxide utilization technologies which could help mitigate rising atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.
