Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) received a $247,080 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation Division of Chemistry on August 1, 2021 to complete the project by July 31, 2024. The grant supports collaborative research on solar carbon dioxide reduction by atomically dispersed metal sites on few-layer carbon nitride under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049). This program aims to advance scientific knowledge and understanding of major problems through support of mathematical and physical sciences research and education activities. Specifically, the grant funding will enable WPI researchers to investigate approaches for solar-driven conversion of CO2 to useful fuels and chemicals using atomically dispersed metal sites on layered carbon nitride photocatalysts. Results from this research could help enable scalable carbon dioxide reduction using sunlight as a renewable energy source.
