Iowa State University of Science and Technology (ISU) was awarded a $221,003 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation on March 15, 2021 to complete a collaborative research project by February 29, 2024. The research project aims to study the relationship between El Niño-Southern Oscillation diversity and tropical cyclones using a hierarchy of climate models. This work will strengthen understanding of the integrated Earth system, in alignment with the goals of the NSF's Geosciences program (CFDA #47.050). Under this award, ISU researchers will leverage multiple climate models at varying levels of complexity to better understand how changes in ENSO patterns may impact tropical cyclone activity on regional and global scales. Results from this research could provide insight into how tropical storm risks may evolve under a changing climate.
