The University of Hawaii at Manoa received a $249,998 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation on January 15, 2021 to support research titled "HIGH-FIDELITY DATING OF DEEP-TIME RECORDS: INTEGRATING EARTH'S DYNAMICAL ELLIPTICITY AND TIDAL DISSIPATION INTO ASTROCHRONOLOGY." The research will be conducted under the NSF's Geosciences program (CFDA #47.050), which aims to strengthen understanding of Earth's integrated system through basic research in atmospheric, earth, and ocean sciences. Specifically, the University of Hawaii will work to advance astrochronology dating techniques by integrating records of Earth's dynamical ellipticity and tidal dissipation over deep geological time periods. The research is expected to provide higher fidelity dating critical for interpreting Earth's long-term climate records. The project will be performed in Honolulu, Hawaii through December 31, 2023.
