This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Earth Sciences totals $345,538 to develop a high-throughput/high-sensitivity, in situ 14C extraction line for use in U.S. earth sciences. Funded under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050), the grant will support basic research in atmospheric, earth, and ocean sciences through the expansion of knowledge and understanding of the integrated Earth system. Specifically, the Trustees of Columbia University in New York will receive funding from August 15, 2021 through July 31, 2023 to establish a new extraction line capable of rapidly processing samples for radiocarbon dating while achieving high sensitivity. This infrastructure will enhance researchers' ability to date key events and processes in Earth's history by enabling more samples to be analyzed at a lower cost per sample. The new extraction line will be located at Columbia University in Palisades, New York.
